© Kathryn Tisdale and The Mandala Pattern, 2010This mandala has a double inspiration.
It is the second in a series celebrating our sun and our journey into the season of the sun’s full power, inspired by the solstice.
The other inspiration is the source photo called Capsicum Chaos. Taken by my friend, Jak King at Vancouver, BC, it is a perfect metaphor for the sun. The heat implied in those peppers and their intense shades of yellow and red — ideal.
Jak posts more of his amazing photography and a selection of his musings on his blog. Check it out. And don’t forget you can click on the thumbnails of detail and source images to get a larger image.

And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

This is another look at Friday’s red onion.

©Kathryn Tisdale and The Mandala Pattern. 2010Monday I posted a mandala of a petunia, and that’s when I learned (from you) that petunias and onions go together. Not one to break up things that go together, I offer this mandala of a red onion.
Petunias and onions are considered companion plants, that is they grow well together in the same garden bed. Not only that, they are both featured in this well known strange but funny little song that you may or may not have heard before:
I'M A LONELY LITTLE PETUNIA IN AN ONION PATCH
The Happy Gang
Of all the saddest words
That I have ever heard
The saddest is the story
Told me by a bird
He had spent about and hour
Chatting with a flower
and here ís the tale the flower told
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch,
an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
and all I do is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch,
oh won't you come and play with me
Who put me in this bed?
I'll bet his face is red
I call him down with every teardrop that I shed
If I only had him here
I'd take him by the ear
And make him share my misery
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch,
an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
and all I do is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away
(Feee-you!)
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch,
oh won't you come and play with me
