“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.”
–Jack London
People who want to squeeze every drop out of life are inspiring. I say that as someone who has a tendency to want to be “a sleepy planet” as much as I’ve ever wanted to be London’s meteor with “every atom aglow.”
This mandala was made from a photo taken Thanksgiving weekend at Forest, Ontario. The campfire released tremendous energy as a huge shower of sparks, which I think the photo captures and I hope the mandala retains.
