Rose Hips Mandala

The beautiful photo used for this mandala was taken by Sherry King when she came across these enormous rose hips on a recent trip to the Yukon.  First Nations people have a long tradition of harvesting and drying the vitamin-rich berry for use all winter, and the BBC reported their potential as an arthritis treatment a few years ago.  Whatever their practical uses, I think they are beautiful, in a peculiar sort of way.

Shell Mandala 3

“I have the world’s largest seashell collection. You may have seen it, I keep it spread out on beaches all over the world.”  ~~ Steven Wright

Some beauty smacks you in the face and announces its arrival by its colour and shape, looking unlike anything around it.  Some beauty sneaks up on you, delicate and gentle with its soft lustre and delicate lines.  Seashells seem to do both.

FSM Mandala

The pirate speaks,” Ayeterday was ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day” and although I’m a day late, this be t’ mandala I had ready for it. It be based on an image o’ t’ Flyin’ Spaghetti Monster found in t’ iconic masterpiece, Touched by His Noodly Appendage by Niklas Jansson and Michelangelo. As “Skullduggery!” all hands knows, members o’ t’ Church o’ t’ Flyin’ Spaghetti Monster (known as Pastafarians) show their devotion by dressin’ and talkin’ like Pirates. “

[Translation: Yesterday was 'Talk Like a Pirate Day" and although I'm a day late, this is the mandala I had ready for it.  It is based on an image of the Flying Spaghetti Monster found in the iconic masterpiece, Touched by His Noodly Appendage by Niklas Jansson and Michelangelo. As everyone knows, members of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (known as Pastafarians) show their devotion by dressing and talking like Pirates. ]

Another Look at Windsor Mandala© Kathryn Tisdale and The Mandala Pattern

And we’re back!  Yay!

The local municipal elections are gearing up, which has inspired me to post another satellite look at this community (Windsor, Ontario and area) as we ponder our future leadership.  May we choose well, for we have so much to lose if we blow it.

I’m happy to work with Google Earth images again. I think they’re powerful;  they  contain all the beauty and bounty of the land, the power of the lakes and the lives of the people… all existing and connecting in a single image.   I’m there, with my family and friends, with all the artists and workers, farmers and scholars.  The air, the water, the land… it’s all there.

The red dot is Windsor, by the way.
